The use of drones has become a significant threat to the security of correctional facilities worldwide. Compact, remotely controlled and easy to operate, a sophisticated commercial drone with a built-in GPS can carry approximately a 1.5kg payload. These lightweight drones are relatively cheap to purchase and easy to operate. The drone is flown over the perimeter of the correctional facility, where it can be easily manoeuvred by the remote operator to hover closely to an open window, allowing inmates to receive contraband such as cellphones, drugs and weapons inside prison walls.
SKYLOCK provides correctional facilities with an effective, customised anti-drone platform that detects and mitigates unauthorised drones, providing 360˚ coverage of up to 2.5 km and “friend or foe” capability, allowing security operators to differentiate between authorised and unauthorised drones.
